Undated, unsigned drawing of two flour bins titled 'Hitchin Flour Outloading Bins'. Station Mill at Hitchin was run by Bowman's who took over the Whitley Bridge Mill. It shut down its milling operations in Hitchin in 2016.

History of Bowmans milling titled 'Millstones and Milestones'.

Booklet printed in colour with black and white photographs of the history of the Bowmans family milling business founded by James Bowman in 1857. Includes photos of Whitley Bridge premises and the office which was previously the owner's home. The section on Whitley Bridge explains that it was bought from the owner, Dick Adderley, in 1975 in order to begin production in the North. Bowmans at Whitley Bridge became a supplier of specialist flours to food and confectionery companies.
Its specialisms included kosher flour, which has to be free of salt, water and fat and made under the supervision of a Rabbi. To avoid the disruption involved the company bought a mobile miniature mill from Buhler in Switzerland to devote to kosher flour. See WBMC-057.

Quotation and specification for supply of Cereal Laboratory Equipment

Quotation for one Simon Water Absorption Meter at £350.00, addressed to Mr Mair and signed by Michael a Hill of Henry Simon Ltd. This follows the acquisition of the Whitley Bridge Mill by Bowmans in 1975, but still apparently trading as John Croysdale and Son Ltd. Item WBMC-060 mentions Bowmans pioneering enterprise in setting up laboratory facilities at the mill. The specification is included.

Full colour printed sheet describing Bennington Foods, Normanton, Notts, a subsidiary of Bowmans. The business is described as 'The high capacity blending plant - superbly located for all regions in the UK', and offers blending, storage and bulk handling facilities.

Quotation for 'Brabender Quadrumat Junior Experimental Mill'

Letter of quotation for supply and delivery an experimental mill produced by German company Brabender for DM. 11,500.00 (£3,450.00). Letter addressed to Mr Mair, J.Croysdale Ltd, and signed by J Callaghan, Henry Simon Ltd. The mill is described as 'an automatic, self-contained unit (including motor, sifting and aspirating systems) which offers the following advantages:- simple and foolproof operation; close duplication of commercial milling; extremely good duplication of results; simple to keep clean and sanitary. This would be an additional equipment for the laboratory being set up at the time. Measuring 410x480x700mm it has a capacity of 150 gms in 3 minutes.

Certificate and Schedule as to means of escape

Factories Act 1961 Certificate and Schedule to the Certificate as to Means of Escape in Case of Fire in respect of the Factory at Eggborough, Whitley Bridge, Near Goole, occupied by John Croydale and Sons Ltd. Lists buildings on site and escape routes from the areas within the buildings. States 32 men and 4 women are employed in the factory and that 1000 gallons of petrol is stored on site. Signed by the clerk of the West Riding of Yorkshire County Council and replacing the Certificate issued by Osgoldcross Rural District Council.

Ledger containing 382 pages covering transactions from 1921 to 1940 titled 'Private Ledger J.C & Sons, Ltd'. Entries include records of regular payments in cash to Charles Croysdale and to the Executors of Thomas Croysdale. Fastened inside the back cover is a list of securities held by Barclays Bank Ltd, Pontefract, on behalf of Messrs John Croysdale & Sons Ltd dated 2nd November 1936. They include deeds for freehold properties costing about £34,00, and War Stock valued at £20,000.

Entries include records of regular payments by cheque to Charles Croysdale until 1958 when he died and payments were then made to Mrs Annie Croysdale. The Capital Account shows reserves of £43,500 in 1944 and £87,000 in 1961.
