Communication from family historian to the Archive, January 2015 regarding this research note:
"One of the millers listed is an ancestral relative named Christmas HOWES ..... except that he is named as Christmas "HOWE"! Also there is a "Christopher HOWE" listed which I believe is a mistranscription from Christmas HOWES as the dates match.
Christmas HOWES was a miller at Westhall from 1851 to 1901 at least. He died in 1908 and was possibly still the miller at that time." Christmas Howes may be found in the 1861-1901 censuses living at Westhall, Suffolk, and in the 1892 Kelly’s Directory of Cambs., Norfolk & Suffolk, 1892 White’s History, Gazeteer & Directory of Suffolk and 1900 Kelly’s Directory of Suffolk. In the 1851 census he is listed as visiting his parents at Aldeby, Norfolk.
