Photographs taken from negatives created by Peter Pearce and B. R. Billings. They appear to have been in the possession of SPAB at the time of Stephen developing them. Peter Pearce's photographs of predominantly Sussex, with some in Essex, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Surrey, taken between 1925 and 1936. B. R. Billings' photographs were taken between 1913 and 1920.

Cutting from "Grays and Tilbury Gazette". It was revealed in a special report at a Planning committee meeting that only two windmills out of 112 in Essex were in working order. Discussions considered the viability of restoring and preserving of windmills in Essex. The report was adopted by the Town and Country Planning Committee.

This was precipitated by a letter received from the Society of the Protection of Ancient Buildings expressing "concern at the rapid disappearance of windmills in Essex".
