"The Fylde

Cutting from "Northern Daily Telegraph". The article says the Fylde has always been known as "Windmill Land". Within a radius of some 12 miles of Blackpool there were over 12 working windmills and over time windmills became unnecessary and lapsed into disuse leaving a few in operation. The latest of these landmarks is Staining windmill near Blackpool.

"Stainall Mill"

Cutting from "Preston Guardian". The picturesque Mill (actually Staining Mill) is on course to be demolished. It is said to be part of the Roman road from Freckleton Naze to Skippool. The mill is a smock mill which was originally constructed from wood.

Cutting from "Blackpool Times". Staining Windmill is no longer a windmill but a furniture store. It used to grind wheat and crusty oats; the sails no longer function.

Cutting from "Manchester City News" reporting that workmen had begun to demolish Staining Windmill which is recorded in the Doomesday book. The present mill at Staining is 150 years old.
