Alan Stoyel was a researcher and enthusiast with a wide knowledge of watermills throughout the UK. He restored his own watermill, Venn Mill at Garford, Oxfordshire, in the 1980s. He was a founding trustee of the Mills Archive and received an MBE in 2019. He died in 2021.
