Scope and content
Cutting from 'The West Sussex Gazette and South of England Advertiser' of an article by Robert Ashby outlining the history of tide-mills in Sussex. The article mentions some prominent mills such as the Bishopston Tide-Mill, and others located at Pagham Harbour, Fishbourne, and Birdham Pool. The article is more detailed about Slipper Mill, and its initial ownership by Thomas Pelham in 1761, and later by the Catt family. The article also includes details of the Royal Naval Air Service using the mill as a training base, as well as its use as a military training base during the second world war. It also alludes to the work of local artist Stanley Tubbs and his involvement with the mills.
