The destruction of Newark Mill in 1966 robbed Surrey of one of its best known landmarks. This guide provides the reader with much historical information regards the Send and Ripley area. Watermills have a long history as described with reference to the Domesday Survey listing around 60 mills on the River Wey and its tributaries. A resume of the structure and operation of watermills is described specifically gearing of waterwheels and the grinding stones. Newark Mill its history and architecture and with personal recollections.
