Conveyance of a water corn mill, Westmorland

One sheet of vellum measuring approx. 40 x 29 cm and bearing its original seal. On the reverse, "16 June 1612, Richard Langrigge & Wm Birkhead, Conveyance of Moietie of Water Corn Mill". The conveyance concerns land "in the said Countie of Westmorland & Commonlie called or known by the name of Mylnton, Mylne".

Lease of a mill in St Mary of the Castle, Hastings

1 folded sheet measuring 50cm x 38cm, signed and sealed by Mary Dodson, and detailing the grant of a year's lease "of a Mill & in the Parish of St Mary of the Castle in Hasting for one year from Michas 1775. Rent £15". The lease is granted by Mary Dodson, widow, of Rye to Joseph Carswell, baker, of Hastings. The mill is leased together with, "the mill stones, wheels, coggs, staves, sweeps, running tackle and all other implements, utensils and appurtenances to the said mill, stable and ground..."

Indenture tripartite relating to a cider mill and other buildings nearby at The Lake, Pendock

Indenture on one sheet of vellum measuring 85 cm x 70 cm which is sealed by the three parties to it; Peter Thackwell, Francis Weller and James Skey. The indenture relates to land, "known by the name The Lake situate in the Parish of Pendock in the County of Worcester with the Barn, Stable, Cyder Mill and Cyder Mill House, Garden and Premises thereto belonging" as well as various nearby closes, fields and parcels of land,"situate in the several Parishes of Pendock and Redmarley D'Abitot".

Assignment of rights relating to land at "Birkle with Bamford" as security for a loan.

Three sheets of vellum measuring approximately 70 cm x 86 cm comprising an assignment of land as security for a loan of £430 made by Benjamin Hay (cordwainer of Shepherd's Mill, Spotland, Rochdale) to Robert [K]ay and James Bentley. Amongst the parties are John and Susan Butterworth (Susan being the widow of John Ramsbottom) who both sign by their marks. John Butterworth is described as a woollen weaver of Rochdale.

Probate of the will of Thomas Ellerby, miller and baker, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland

2 sheets of vellum measuring approx. 63 x 54 cm (with seal), comprising probate documents reproducing the will of Thomas Ellerby, miller and baker of Bishopwearmouth, County Durham. The will and codacils included the bequest of "the steam mill and appurtenances thereto......used in the concern of Miller & Baker" as well as a foundry and numerous dwellings in the area around Bishopwearmouth and Sunderland. The will was dated 10th February 1815, with two codacils dated 16th and 18th October 1817.

Grant of Probate of the Will of Robert Robson, Miller, Hexham, Northumberland

Probate document is on 1 sheet measuring approximately 25cm x 14cm, bearing the seal of the Prerogative Court, York, and grants probate to Sarah Robson (widow) as Administratrix. Attached is a copy of the Will of Robert Robson, Miller, Hexham Northumberland, made on 9 December 1823 and which includes bequests relating to land at West Mill Lane, Hexham. The copy Will comprises 1 sheet of vellum measuring approximately 48cm x 74 cm.

Conveyance of a mill and premises in Rugeley, Staffordshire

Two sheets of vellum measuring approx. 69 x 57 cm comprising a conveyance of a water corn mill (formerly a leather mill) and associated buildings and pools near Turkeyshall Lane, Rugeley, Stafford. The parties to the conveyance include James Brittain (his wax seal attached), William Bamford, The Right Hon John C Tallboy, MP, (commonly called Viscount Ingestre), Sir George Sinclair MP, Thomas Pitt and Jeremiah Barrett.

Deed of Confirmation and Release relating to a mill and land at Charlton, Shepton Mallett

Two vellum sheets (approx 62 x 79 cm and 60 x 76 cm). Indenture in which John Masters and John Fry Reeves (owners of all the fulling mills, tucking mills and other properties originally belonging to Matthew Davy) confirm the sale to Joseph Giles of a mill and premises in Charlton, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, which were mortgaged by Matthew Davy to John Holman Evans, and sold by him to Joseph Giles. Other names mentioned: Thomas Smith, William Melliar, John Marshall, Paul Cooper, Edward Quickett. Original document available for reference.

Further Arrangement on the Lease of a Mill to the Stockton Flour Company Ltd

4 page paper document (approx 37 x 24 cm). A further arrangement between Sarah Nelson, Richard Fessey, Charles Nelson and the Stockton Flour Company modifying the terms of an indenture dated the 3rd April 1862, in which Sarah Nelson and Richard Fessey leased "a certain mill" to the Stockton Flour Company, the company now being able to terminate the lease at the end of the 3rd year (as well as at the end of the 2nd year as originally agreed). Other names mentioned: Thomas Griffin, Thomas Archer and John Howson Lamb. Original document available for reference.
