In the last decades of the Mill's working life it was owned by three Abraham brothers, Thomas (eldest) who did various work for the business, Alfred who was the miller, and Clement (youngest) who attended to the administration.

This photograph is thought to have been taken by Rex Wailes who carried out extensive surveys of the mills in England in the 1920s-40s on behalf of the Ministry of Works and its agent organisations responsible for cataloguing and preserving ancient buildings. He became the foremost authority on mills.

This picture is thought to be on the occasion of a celebration to mark the repair of the mill in 1901, to which public donations raised £100 towards the cost. The wind-shaft snapped during a storm in 1899 and the sails were destroyed.
Alfred James Abraham 1864 - 1959, the last miller
Alfred James Abraham 1864 - 1959 was the third generation of Abrahams to own Upminster windmill, and the last miller to work the mill. He owned the mill jointly with his two brothers, Thomas and Clement.
