Abstract of title to three mills at Banbury

5 vellum sheets (30 cm x 20 cm) providing an abstract of Mr Darnelly's title to lands in Banbury traced back to: a lease by Queen Elizabeth I to Anthony Cope of two Banbury Mills dated 7 July 1587; a conveyance of a third mill "being a Windmill" from Thomas Hawtaine (son of Henry and Mary Hawtaine) to Richard Vivers dated 18 July 1632; a deed dated 6 October [1616] under which Henry Hawtaine made a "jointure of the premises" to his wife, Mary, being "the windmill the Ivy Close b[y] the Meadow....all part of Easington Farms" which he had purchased "from the king"; a conveyance of "the Fine yard Lands at Nethrop" from Richard Cope, John Churchill and Richard Hastings to Richard Vivers dated 27 April 1616; a conveyance of "the Barns" from Thomas and Edward Kirton to Robert Vivers dated 18 June 1652. The abstract is completed with Mr Darnelly obtaining judgement in Trinity Term 1662 for £900.

'Abstract of Sir James Oxendens Settlement of Estates in Hearn'

5 pages of paper measuring approximately 41 cm x 34 cm describing Sir James Oxenden's settlement of his estate at Hearn Bay including land known as 'Underdown with one other small messuage or tenement and the Barns stables orchards Gdens & Arable Meadow and Pasture Lands...... containing in the whole by estim[ation] 160 acres more or less....And all other messuages etc sit[uate] lying & being in the Parishes of Reculver Hearn and Chislett....".

Original title reads, "OEconomie Rustique, Moulin a exprimer l'Huile des Graines". Rex Wailes' note on the reverse reads, "From Diderot's Encyclopaedia, 1762" and then lists the labelled parts A to H in French, " A. & B. l'arbre fournant, C. le rouet. D. rouet horizontal, D./F. l'arbre vertical, E. la lanterne, G. un rouet, H. le gross arbre horizontal".

Structural drawing of a windmill (1/8) by Prevost for Diderot's Encyclopédie

Original title, "Agriculture Economie Rustique, Moulin à Vent". On the reverse Rex Wailes has listed various English technical terms and given their meaning in French, "Teeth = aluchon, Neck irons = allumelles de fer, bearings = collets, wedges = clés, pins [(....)] = juseaux, [.....], bedstone = gissante".

Saw mill engraving

Depicting the wind-powered saw mill constructed by Charles Dingley at Limehouse in 1767. It was opposed by local sawyers who believed it was undercutting their work and it was badly damaged by rioters on 10 May 1768. A copy of article "Charles DIngley, projector, and his Limehouse sawmill" by John H Appleby also included.
