"A family of millers in the Isle of Axholme"

Cutting from 'Doncaster Chronicle' describing the history of Burnham Mill under the Wilkinson family. The article outlines the start of the milling business under Jabez Wilkinson, and details the mill's consequent operation under various members of the m#family. It also contains a profile on Fred Wilkinson, a miller, and his regret about the diminishing number of mills in the local area. It also explains that Fred Wilkinson had to remove the sails and operate the mill by an oil engine due to lack of demand.

Alfred Hone at City Mills, Ely

Donated by Lyn Cottrell. Believed taken in the 1890s at City mills, Ely, Cambridgeshire, where Alfred Hone is listed as miller in 1892 and 1900. The photograph shows Alfred's second wife Emily, his daughters from his first marriage, Maude and Nellie, and his stepson William. Alfred's first wife died in 1892.

Dawson Family

Information on the Dawson family of millers from Cambridgeshire, 1827-1901. The following note was received from Mike Miles, June 2008: "With reference to the Dawson Family at Bourn Windmill....The Mill that they had was in the Broadway, they did not have the Famous Post Mill in Caxton Road. The Dawsons were ancestors of my Wife (nee Dawson). Mill House still exists in the Broadway (No. 49), but I have not seen it. The Dawsons had the mill from about 1880 until at least 1916."
