Warrant of Attorney to act in a legal action concerning two windmills in Ringland, Norfolk

One sheet of paper measuring 41 cm x 33 cm and folded in two. This warrant of attorney appoints two members of the King's Bench to act on William Christmas Rivett's behalf "in an action of Trespass and Ejectment of Farm" concerning various land and properties, including two windmills, at Ringland owned by Edward Palmer Clarke of Wymondham, Norfolk.

A Biography of Caleb Oyler Russell

Reference to Willesborough Watermill probably relates to Sevington Mill, Ashford. Reference to Shorncliffe Watermill probably relates to Seabrook Mill, Cheriton.

Tremenheere, Wynn (1923-2015), chairman of Cranbrook Windmill Association

Two 18th century documents relating to mills at Haughton and Thoresby Park, and to tree planting in the parkland of the Duke of Kingston (the Pierrepont Family)

1 folded sheet measuring 38cm x 31cm recording an agreement between the agent of the Duchess of Kingston and Thomas Thorpe (miller) relating to the diversion of the water supply to Haughton Mill and a weekly lease of new corn mill at Thoresby Park, the Duchess' corn and malt to be ground free of charge. For further content click on the link to the document transcription. A second folded sheet measuring 41cm x 31cm gives, "An Account of all the Trees taken out of the Nurserys and Planted in the Parke to 31 December 1762", seeming to relate to tree planting at either Thoresby Park or Holme Pierrepont Hall.

Research notebook, 1925, 1938 and 1962

A partially-filled technical notebook featuring notes, drawings and measurements for 'Cranbrook Mill' with a focus on the 'cannister head', striking gear, windshaft, weatherboarding, curb and fan. The drawings include a cross-section showing the 'framing of one side of tower - 4th floor'. There are also undated notes on 'Stanstead Mill' with notes [possibly from the miller] on how to dress stones.
Notes from September 1938 detail a visit to 'Stanton Mill' as well as very detailed notes taken following a visit to Mr John Smith at 'Holton Mill'. These notes appear to be taken from Mr Smith's recollections of numerous mills, millers and millwrights in the area, (e.g. Yoxford, Tunstall, Theberton, Snape) as well as further afield (e.g. Edenbridge, Outwood and Patcham).
A final single page of notes related to a visit to 'Polegate' on 20 March 1962.
