The painting is by J. M. Macintosh of the West Mills. The mills have a turret with a weather vane on top, there is a bridge over the river to the right, and the tower of St. Nicholas' Church appears in the distance.

This image is undated; however it cannot be later than 1905 as this copy of the postcard bears a postmark of that date.
Tufnail's Series
This copy of the postcard bears a 1/2d stamp. The postage rate for postcards rose to 1d in 1918, so the image presumably does not date from later than that year.
