"Newark Mill, Ripley, Surrey"

The destruction of Newark Mill in 1966 robbed Surrey of one of its best known landmarks. This guide provides the reader with much historical information regards the Send and Ripley area. Watermills have a long history as described with reference to the Domesday Survey listing around 60 mills on the River Wey and its tributaries. A resume of the structure and operation of watermills is described specifically gearing of waterwheels and the grinding stones. "The story of Weydon Mill"

There is a model of Weydon Mill displayed in Willmer House Museum and was mentioned in the Doomesday Survey. Farnham has six mills of which Weydon was identified.

"Bagshott Mill"

Bagshott Series No. 8. The "Bagshot Mills" shown on John Rocque's District Map (1716) refers to fulling mills associated to sheep farming of the Bagshot Heath. The mills are probably located in the grounds of the Royal Military Academy. Another mill was built in the village of Bagshot which has now disappeared apart from the original house. This research article includes references and drawings of the water wheel.
