Windmill photographs

Geoff Holman's collection of Kent windmill postcards, slides, prints and negatives. These were originally sorted alphabetically by place name using index cards; each file in this series corresponds to an index card and the original order has been retained. Mills built by the Holmans are given their own files, placed first.
Postcards have been removed and placed in the Watlington Postcard and Art Collection and cuttings have been placed in the cuttings collection. Index cards containing no items or only postcards have not been represented by files in this series.

Holman Brothers photographs

Photographs of Holman Brothers' premises, machinery and workers; both originals and later copies. A note with the photographs stated 'most probably taken by Tom Holman who was a keen photographer'. Some are large prints dating from the 1970s-1980s of earlier images, made for the Canterbury Camera Club.

Photographs 1-138 were numbered and listed by Geoff Holman; his numbering has been retained and his list has been used as the basis for this catalogue (some numbers, eg 32 seem not to have been used). Further photos have been added, continuing the numbering. Alongside the Holman photographs Geoff included in his numbering several postcards, presumably not part of the original set of Holman photos. Geoff seems to have included these because he intended to use them in his book (printouts of scans of these are included in the draft, HOLM/8/2). Those depicting mills have been removed and placed in the Watlington Postcard and Art Collection (nos HB 131-4, 136, 138).

Digital files

Digital files of Geoff Holman's draft chapters for his book on the history of the Holman family and the Holman Brothers firm. There is a folder for each chapter, containing a word file with the draft of that chapter, and in many cases other word files with notes. Many contain image files, mostly poor quality copies of old postcards and photographs. Some are scans of images in HOLM/4

Of note is a word file containing an interview with Chris Richardson, former Holman employee, remembering his working life; this can be found under chapter 2, 'The Holmans'. There are also numerous images, plans and documents relating to the restoration of Montefiore Mill, Jerusalem
