Old Post Mill, Lydd

Text on reverse reads "Lydd. Kent. See Coles Finch facing p228. Burnt Feb 26 1900. Copy to Dr M. Dunn"
Coles Finch (1933) gives Miss Goble as the source of this image. The Gobles were the last millers at the Old Mill.
Michael Dunn donated his copy to the SPAB (SPAB-24129).

Part of the Rex Wailes collection. Labelled "Udimore, near Rye, Sussex", but in fact Old Mill, Wittersham.
Annotated on reverse "Shews method of fan drive... Drive taken down the back of mill and down stairs to wheels on bottom of ladder. Peculiar to Sussex."

'Notes Watermills'

Notebook measuring approx. 10.5 cm x 16.5 cm and marked on the inside cover 'c.1972' containing a list of mills (one page per mill), at varying levels of detail (those with more content being listed at 'Place access points' below). The first half of the notebook is devoted to watermills but the second half features windmills (mostly smock and post mills). Notes on several of the windmills reference the work of JM Heathcote. Cross references to maps/page numbers of books occur throughout.
