The fourth Sub - Series is comprised of photographic negatives of windmills and watermills situated in the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Essex, Hampshire, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire, Somerset and Wiltshire.
The twenty first item is the second image of Dorchester Flour and Provender Mills situated in the heart of Dorchester. Once again, this is the only information that is given regarding the identity of the Dorchester mills. We know that this image was sent to Gardner by means of post. The important note is written on the back of the photograph of "Please Return To Miss E. M. Gardner" which proceeds to list the home address of Gardner. Just as with the preceding image, there is the note written in a smaller handwriting and altogether different hand which supplies us with the important information that a "Negative Slide (of this print was) made". The image is undated.

The folder contains handwritten notes on Dorset along with a blank envelope which used to hold 1 photograph (now in folder "EMGC-04" and catalogued as "EMGC-04-7-01". There is also a plastic wallet containing handwritten notes of E. M. Gardner relating to the watermills of Dorset which were brought to The Mills Archive by Alan Stoyel.
This file contains handwritten index cards possessing information relating to a plethora of water mills from an extensive range of counties. The index cards are arranged alphabetically according to county. The counties and cities included are organised in this descending order: Berkshire; Buckinghamshire; Cambridgeshire ; Cheshire ; Cumberland ; Cornwall ; Derby ; Devon ; Dorset ; Durham ; Gloucestershire ; Hampshire ; Hereford ; Hertfordshire ; Huntingdonshire ; Kent ; Lancashire ; Leicester ; Lincoln ; London ; Middlesex ; Norfolk ; Northamptonshire ; Northumberland ; Nottinghamshire ; Oxford; Rutland ; Salop ; Somerset ; Stafford ; Suffolk ; Surrey ; Warwick ; Westmorland and Yorkshire. There is a section of index cards on mills in Scotland which follows directly on from the English counties and cities. The final two sections at the end are entitled Hammer Mills and Horse Mills. Incidentally, the section of index cards relating to watermills in Devon is sub - divided further into the subsections : River Axe and tributaries, River Exe and tributaries. River Otter and tributaries and River Teign and tributaries.
