Alan Gifford comments: "George Chell was a millwright from nearby Crich who rebuilt mill after tail winding in 1894. The stone plaque is still visible high in the wall of his house in Crich."

Alan Gifford comments: "The wooden brake wheel probably dates from the 1894 repair after tail winding. In 1991 it had no cogs or teeth and was made 'secure' by baulks of timber wedged though the wheel."
