Alan Gifford comments: "No governor was found in the old mill so a new one was designed and made by volunteers, but fitted by the millwrights, on the existing iron tentering arms."

Alan Gifford comments: "Much work was done by volunteers both local and from MMG. Through the winter of 2001 through to opening in June 2002, and beyond they undertook numerous tasks ranging from site clearance, cleaning and painting to dry stone walling, apart from producing interpretation displays and various components for the mill."

Sewing canvas onto shutters for Heage Tower Mill
Alan Gifford comments: "Heavy duty canvas was hand sewn onto the shutter frames by volunteers, aided by helpers from the local WI. Many took them home to carry out the work."
