Smock mill, Earnley

This is an HESS postcard but is not numbered and does not appear in Short's notebook. Syd's bicycle leans against a post on the left, with its white mudguards.

Iden Mills (temporary) sketch plan

Covers position of three mills, which HESS names as White Mill, Black Mill and Hoad Mill, of which the present entry in our Mills Index seems to be Black Mill. Hoad Mill's position is only claimed as approximate.

Shipley Mills sketch plan

The only definite site is Kings Mill, which is where Hilaire Belloc lived. What HESS called Old Post Mill is shown just as having been in Mill Field, whilst HoneyPoles Mill location was not then known.

Downs Mill, Bexhill, and bakery, both in working order

HESS catalogue #1055. The sign had a headboard reading "Speciality Diabetic Bread". The main board reads:- "The Down Mill Bakery. Tel. 541(?). Estab. [?]. Clifford Hoad. Baker and confectioner. Pure Home Made Bread. Birthday cakes. Bride cakes.
