Biographical history

Edward Mitford Abraham was born in 1882 and lived at Caydale Mill, Yorkshire. He was a Quaker and descendant of Margaret Fell, wife of George Fox. He inherited Swarthmoor Hall, Ulverston (then in Lancashire, now Cumbria), home of Margaret Fell and centre of early Quakerism, and lived there from 1940 to 1954, when he sold it to the Society of Friends. Some of his brief notes on windmills were published in Ulverston in 1949. He died at Green House Farm, Colton, Ulverston in 1959.
