Each stage of a dig is recorded and any special details are drawn, as in this example of a doorway in the cottages.

The Mill House basement will be filled in and the new visitors centre built on top. To save the details of the basement for posterity, a 3D computer model has been made using actual photographs from the dig site.

The southern extension of the Mill House had two kitchens in a basement. There were windows at the east end, and both an internal and external staircase, plus a dumb waiter to the breakfast room above.

A fire of wood faggots would be lit in the oven to heat the bricks, and once hot the fire was raked out. The bricks would remain hot enough for baking for up to six hours. The wood was stored in the aperture below the oven.

The Mill House basement contained two kitchens that shared a central chimney. The west kitchen had the bread oven with side stove and hot plate, and the east kitchen had a range.
