Biographical history
Alan Stoyel was a researcher and enthusiast with a wide knowledge of watermills throughout the UK. He restored his own watermill, Venn Mill at Garford, Oxfordshire, in the 1980s. He was a founding trustee of the Mills Archive and recieved an MBE in 2019. He died in 2021.

The Alan Stoyel collection is one of the Foundation Collections of the Mills Archive and was promised to the Archive from its inception. A small amount of material was transferred during Alan's lifetime, and the majority of the collection was bequeathed to the Archive and transferred in 2022 after Alan's decease.
